State School Games begins

GUWAHATI, March 22 - The maiden edition of the State School Games, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare got under way at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai here today.

Altogether six events � athletics, boxing, taekwondo, badminton, archery and volleyball will be conducted during the five-day meet which will conclude on March 26.

The taekwondo and badminton events will be conducted at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in the RG Baruah Sports Complex. Teams from 32 districts are taking part in the meet and the teams mostly comprise of rookie athletes.

Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Pabitra Ram Khound formally inaugurated the meet. Deputy Director, Jatin Borchetia welcomed the athletes and the gathering in the inaugural function.
