State rivers in spate

GUWAHATI, July 1 � During the past 24 hours, 22 villages in Dhemaji, Sissiborgaon and Jonai revenue circles of Dhemaji district and Lahorighat revenue circle of Morigaon district were affected by floods. According to an official flood bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a population of 2,791 has been affected by the floods during the period.

However, according to the cumulative figure supplied by the ASDMA bulletin a total population of 24,845 has been affected by the floods in the Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat , Kamrup, Karimganj, Lakhimpur , Sivasagar and Tinsukia districts of the State since the beginning of the current flood season.

Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat. The mighty river is flowing above the warning level at Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Guwahati and Dhubri. It is flowing at the warning level at Goalpara, said the evening flood bulletin of the Central Water Commission (CWC) here.

The tributaries of the mighty river like Desang (at Nanglamura) Dhansiri-South (Golaghat and Numaligarh), Jia Bharali (NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur), Puthimari (NH Road Crossing in Kamrup district), Beki (Road Crossing in Barpeta district) are also flowing above their respective warning levels.

While the Brahmaputra is maintaining a rising trend at Goalpara and Dhubri, its tributaries Dhansiri � South (Golaghat and Numaligarh), Kopili (Kampur), Puthimari (NH Rd Crossing in Kamrup district), Pagladiya (N T Rd Crossing in Nalbari district) are maintaining rising trends, said the CWC bulletin.
