State power workers� meet

GUWAHATI, Dec 31 - The 29th biennial conference of the Assam State Electricity Workers� Union will be held with a three-day programme from January 6 to 8 at the District Library Auditorium, Nagaon, a press release stated. A reception committee has been formed with Dr Kosheswar Bhuyan, Jadav Saikia, Md Nasir Ulla Intezam and Bipul Saikia as president, working president and general reception committee members for the accommodation of more than 500 delegates from different parts of the State.

The authority concerned has already sanctioned special casual leave for the delegates to attend the conference. The conference is being held at a crucial juncture when the Central Government is going to amend the Electricity Act, 2003 and Labour Laws, which will be detrimental to the interests of the nation and against the interests of the working classes, the release alleged.

The State conference will be addressed by Swadesh Deb Roy, working president, Electricity Employees� Federation of India, at the open session on January 7 as the chief guest. Dipak Kumar Saha, president, and Balindra Kumar, general secretary of the Assam State Electricity Workers� Union, has urged members to attend the conference and make it a success, the release added.
