State positive cases mount to 4,158

GUWAHATI, June 15 - As many as 245 COVID-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals on Monday with the State achieving a recovery rate of 53 per cent. As per the latest update, the total number of active cases in Assam stands at 1,942.

As per the official update around noon today, the State recorded 40 new COVID-19 positive cases taking the overall count to 4,158. Of these, 2,205 have so far recovered, as per the last official update at 8:20 pm.

Guwahati too continued to record fresh positive cases with new areas being declared as containment zones. The total number of containment zones in the Kamrup (Metro) district as per the latest update was 63.

Among those detected COVID-19 positive in Kamrup (Metro) include six OPD cancer patients at the State Cancer Institute, who tested positive during routine testing. The total number of positive cases in Guwahati has already crossed the 200-mark in last 24 hours.

Of the 40 cases detected today, 31 are from Jorhat, while Dhemaji and Biswanath recorded three and two cases respectively. Further, Lakhimpur and Dibrugarh too witnessed one positive case each.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today stated that the State government has so far completed 2.17 lakh tests for COVID-19. �We have been carrying out approximately 10,000 tests per day after having ramped up our capacities,� the minister said.

Meanwhile, the traders of the Athgaon locality have voluntarily decided to keep their shops and establishments closed from June 15 till June 21. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure in view of the escalating COVID-19 positive cases in the locality.

The State on Sunday had recorded a spike of 218 COVID-19 cases.
