GUWAHATI, June 2 � The coming Assembly elections in Assam would be held on time in April next year and not earlier, Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi said today.
Responding to reporters queries on the sidelines of the North East Zonal Conference of the Election Commission here, Quraishi said the EC saw no reason for early hustings in the State.
The NEZ Conference also reviewed Assam�s preparedness for the polls, he said.
Discounting apprehensions about trouble during the election, Quraishi said the situation in Assam was peaceful and there was no cause for concern over law and order.
About allegations of inclusion of Bangladeshis� names in the voters lists, the CEC said the matter was always taken seriously by the Commission and that it would be reviewed with the electoral officers. � PTI
