State Planning Board, Assam renamed

GUWAHATI, Dec 9 - The State Government has renamed the earlier State Planning Board, Assam, as State Innovation and Transformation Ayog (SITA) through a Cabinet decision recently and following the Governor�s recommendation to that effect, a notification was issued by the Planning and Development Department.

The Chief Minister will be the Chairman of SITA as in the case of earlier State Planning Board, Assam, an official press release said.

Dipok Kumar Barthakur, entrepreneur and socio-cultural activist has been appointed as SITA Vice Chairman with the rank and designation of a Cabinet minister.

The functions of the SITA are to advise and coordinate the responsibilities and functioning of the Panchayati Raj institutions, and autonomous, territorial and development councils of different communities of Assam. It will also look into the causes of sick industries, Assam Accord, exploring water resources and take action for �Make in Assam� and �Act East Policy.�
