GUWAHATI, Feb 15 - The State, including organisations and individuals from various walks of life, bowed in unison to pay respect to the security personnel who lost their lives in the ghastly attack on February 14 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Political parties, cutting across their ideological differences, voiced their anger against terror and prayed for the eternal peace of those who attained martyrdom.
The North East Students� Organisation and the All Assam Students� Union also condemned the Pulwama terror attack.
Students of various educational institutions, including Cotton University, also lit candles and earthen lamps to pay homage to the martyrs.
Guwahatians paid their last respect to the martyrs by lighting candles at 8 pm in their respective campus in a synchronized manner.
Social media too saw massive uproar against the terror attack and demanded action against the perpetrators.
The Lawyers� Association, Guwahati, in a tribute meet, observed a moment of silence in memory of departed souls.
The State BJP said by this cowardly act Pakistan has called for another surgical strike by India on its territory. The State committee of the BJP along with all its district and mandal committees lit candle lights to pay homage to the martyred soldiers and also observed a two-minute silence.
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee also condemned the terror attack in Pulwama. Party members lighted candles this evening at Rajiv Bhawan offering their tribute to the martyred CRPF jawans.
AGP president Atul Bora too condemned the attack and expressed his condolence to the bereaved family members.
The Commissioner and Secretary, Secretariat Administration Department, announced that employees of the Secretariat will donate one-day salary for the bereaved family of the martyrs following a condolence meeting held at the Janata Bhawan campus.
PTI adds: Various organisations held protests across Assam. Protesters burnt effigies of Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, which claimed responsibility for the attack, and flags of the neighbouring country.
Protests were held by members of Sadou Assam Goria Moriya Yuva Chatra Parishad, a minority students� organisation, All Bodo Minority Students� Union, ABVP, Krishak Shramik Unayan Parishad and Hindu Jagran Manch. The protesters raised anti-Pakistan slogans.
Paramananda Rajbangshi, president of Assam Sahitya Sabha, the apex literary body in the State, condemned the terror attack and urged the people to unitedly oppose forces trying to destabilise the country.
