State paddlers to get training in USA

GUWAHATI, May 28 � The Assam Table Tennis Association (ATTA), like previous four years, will send table tennis players to California for intensive training this year.

The training will be conducted by Indian Community Centre (ICC), Milpitas, California from June 9 to August 30 under the watchful eyes of noted coach Massimo Costantini of Italy, who had been the Indian team coach during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Addressing the media in a press conference here today, ATTA president Rockybul Hussain said that this time altogether 10 players, including five girls, have been selected for the training. He said that the ATTA is trying its best to provide facilities to the players and now it is up to them how they utilise the opportunity.

ATTA secretary Tridib Duvarah said that the ICC is sponsoring the whole expenditure of the trip for the players. Giving account of their activities, Duvarah said, �They had organised the senior and youth national championships apart from regular State level tournaments. The State TT body also organised coaching camps with the Korean coach for the TT talents of the State�, said Duvarah.

Former State champion Bijoy Hazarika wished all the players will work hard in the camp and will play better for Assam.

The air tickets and visas were handed over to the players today.

The selected players are: Shankab Gautam Baruah (Golaghat), Kalyan Singh (Duliajan), Krishanu Baruah (Sivasagar), Rupam Jyoti Parasar (Jorhat), Jyotishman Hazarika (Dibrugarh), Mallika Gogoi (Duliajan), Angkita B Gohain (Golaghat), Priya Dutta (Dibrugarh), Payal Sarma (Jorhat), Biswarupa Bania (Nagaon).
