State observes Bhupenda�s adyashraddha

DIBRUGARH, Nov 15 � Popular hits of Dr Bhupen Hazarika were staged through dance and music at the Chowkidinghee ground here today as part of the adyashraddha ceremony of the legendary music maestro who passed away on November 5. Scratch art and release of a book were also part of the programme.

A large number of people from different faiths attended the programme and various cultural groups and individuals presented programmes on Bhupenda. Guinness Book record holder Apuraj Barooah showed his skill in the scratch art. Young and old including women took part in various stage programmes.

A book dedicated to Dr Bhupen Hazarika named Manuhe Manuhor Babe and authored by local writer and reporter Sarat Neog was also released during the programme. The book was released by Ratan Choudhury, a guitarist who had played the guitar for Bhupenda. Noted Assamese writer and former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Nagen Saikia also attended the shradhanjali programme.

Elsewhere in the city, community programmes were held in more than 20 localities to mark adyashraddha of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

JORHAT � A �Shradharghya Nibedan� programme was organized under the aegis of Jorhat district administration and Jorhat Shilpi Sangstha at the Court Field here today to pay tributes to the late music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika on the day of his adyashraddha. The programme began with the naam prasanga conducted by the Satradhikar of Ujanial Satra, Garmurh, Lakhi Mahanta. The officials of Jorhat district administration and the public present there participated in the naam prasanga.

BK Handique, MP, Jorhat Lok Sabha Constituency, Rana Goswami, Jorhat MLA, RC Jain, Jorhat Deputy Commissioner and many other dignitaries were present in the programme.

A sarva dharma prarthana (all religion prayer) was also conducted in which Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Shikhs, Buddhists and representatives of other religions took part.

More than 500 people assembled in the programme and sang the three evergreen songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika entitled Mahabahu Brahamaputra, Manuhe Manuhar Babe and Jilikaba Luitore Par.

Some noted personalities associated with Assamese music including Leena Bezbaruah and Manas Rabin performed musical programmes in honour of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

DERGAON � Along with other parts of the State, the adyashraddha of music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed here. It was held at Naren Sarma Memorial field here under the aegis of Dergaon Sahitya Sabha and Dergaon unit of AASU in association with various other organisations of the locality.

The programme started with the smriti tarpan initiated by artiste Bhola Hazarika. It was followed by gayan bayan. After that, the all faith prayers was held where almost all the religious groups of Dergaon participated and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. That was followed by several people paying homage to the icon with different items like Bhupendra Sangeet, diha naam etc. In the evening, the field was illuminated with about 1,000 earthen lamps. The public of Negheriting Chariali also observed the ritual.

Digboi � Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika�s adyashraddha was observed throughout Margherita subdivision with participation of a large number of people belonging to various communities and faiths.

The observation organised by Uttar Digboi Child Welfare Centre of Ramnagar began in the morning with lighting of the main lamp by Krishna Kanta Bora followed by the chanting of kakuti ghosha by the local ayatis.

The other ceremonial lamps were lit by Dimbeswar Das, President of the organising committee, HN Sarma, retd. principal of Margherita College, Tarun Hazarika, president of AOC Labour Union and Runu Hazarika, president of Borbil Gaon Panchayat.

Flower offerings to the life- size portrait of the music maestro were rendered by the representatives of 35 organizations, including some local NGOs.

An all-religion prayer followed by naam prasanga and the rendering of the songs of the maestro by the local talents including Lohit Gogoi and Beetasok Sarma marked the occasion. The presence of the nonagenarian lady Prativa Dutta added extra grace to the observation. Dipen Borah introduced the proceedings of the occasion.

In the afternoon, a centralised observation by 90 different organisations was held in the premises of Paragdhar Chaliha Auditorium in the Muliabari Area of Digboi. It was organised by Dr Bhupen Hazarika Fan Club of Digboi. The observation consisted of an inter community prayer and musical homage rendered by the local talents.

At Margherita, the centralised observation was organized by the Margherita sub-divisional administration in association with Margherita Unit of AASU and the local public. An all community prayer was the highlight of the occasion followed by Illumination in the evening hours.

NAGAON � Under the auspices of Nagaon district administration, the adyas harddha of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed today. Floral tributes were paid at his portrait which was started by Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain where officers, artists, litteratures took part.

A procession was also taken out through the main thoroughfare of Nagaon town. All religion prayer meeting, Bhagawat path, naam prasaga, banti prajjalan were some other activities included in the function

Nagaon Bar Association , Sadau Asam Gramya Puthibharal Santha, District AASU and other different organizations, educational institutions observed the day with different programmes. Bhupendra sangeet was played in different places all along the day.

Yuba Chatra Parisad arranged a signature campaign today to confer the Bharat Ratna on Dr Hazarika posthumously.

SIVASAGAR � Cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika�s adyashraddha was observed today by the Sivasagar district administration with the support of people of Sivasagar, with an all-religion prayer at Boarding Field in Sivasagar. In the evening, there was a nagra naam from 6 pm.

Several organizations such as AASU Sivasagar regional unit, Mech-Kachari Jatiya Parishad, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, etc., organized Dr Bhupen Hazarika�s adyashraddha in different parts of the district.

It needs to be mentioned thousands mourned and thronged the entire stretch of the road from Janji to Sivasagar town when his chita vashma was brought on November 10. Thousands poured in at Boarding Field where the urn containing the ashes of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was kept for the public to pay their respects on November 10, 11 and 12. The scene was repeated on November 13 too, when the chita vashma was taken to Desangmukh for immersion. A similar scene was also seen on the day of his adyashraddha at the Boarding Field.

Biswanath Chariali � The adyashraddha of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was performed at the �Bhupen Hazarika Kalakshetra and Shakti Udyan� at Biswanath Chariali along with other parts of the State. All religion prayer was held where hundreds of people thronged. Civil administration and several organizations including AASU, AJYCP etc jointly organized it. The adyashraddha was held at Borgang, Chatia, Behali and Bedeti too.

TINSUKIA � On the day of the adyashraddha of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika today, the people of entire district offered their shradhanjali to departed son of Assam in various places.

At the district headquarters, Tinsukia, District Students� Union and the district administration with cooperation of different organisations, NGOs organized shradhanjali at the Chaliha Nagar field here where people of different casts and creed offered their heartfelt tributes to the great soul.

On the occasion, a all religion prayer including Bhagawat path etc were performed. Deputy Commissioner SS Meenakshi Sundaram, Police Super, Prithvi Pal Sing, local MLA Rajendra Pd. Singh, Chabua MLA Raju Sahu, Municipal Chairman Subhashish Bhattacharyya and other dignitaries offered their their tributes and took part in the all religion prayer. Local MLA Singh announced an amount of Rs 5 lakh for the construction of a statue of the Asom Ratna to be built at the Thana Chariali here.

The Golap Chandra Rabi Chandra Natya Mandir Committee and Tinsukia Matsya Byobashayee Santha also organized all religion prayer and smriti charan sabha at the Natya Mandir and Dohotia Chuk Bihutoli here.

At Makum, Makum Branch Sahitya Sabha and Makum Anchalik Chatra Santha along with other organizations organized a shradhanjali function at Rajanikanta Bordoloi Field.

At Doomdooma town field, all the local organist ions of Doomdooma jointly organized sarvadharma prarthana and smriti charan sabha.

In the birth place of Dr Hazarika, the sub divisional administration and the Sadiya branch Sahitya Sabha along with other organisations organised a shradhanjali function at the Sahitya Sabha Bhawan of Chapakhowa.

Besides these, the public shradhanjali functions were organized at Bordubi, Talap, Dangori, Dholla, Kakopathar, Philobari areas of the district. According to information received here all the functions were well attended by the public and dignitaries.
