DIPHU, Aug 16 - The State Mourning Day (Sok Divas) was observed in Karbi Anglong district today to mourn the tragic death of 14 people, mostly children, killed in the bomb blast on August 15, 2004 at Dhemaji.

The State Mourning Day was arranged here by the deputy commissioner, while similar programmes were also held at the subdivisional headquarters of Bokajan and Hamren. Officers and staff participated in the observance of Sok Divas across the district and wore black badges.

The National Flag was flown half mast at all the government offices and educational institutions. Educational institutions have been observing Sok Divas for eternal peace of the departed souls and to take the pledge to work unitedly for peace and social harmony, and raise their voice against all acts of militant violence.

BARPETA: The Dhemaji blast victims were remembered in Barpeta district with prayer meetings held in different places. In a special meeting in the office campus of the deputy commissioner here, the tragic incident was recalled as officers and staff took the pledge to fight against the subversive elements.

Barpeta Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka administered the oath in the programme where additional deputy commissioners Babul Sahariya, SDO Manas Saikia and DIPRO Ranjit Kumar Das were also present.

Morigaon: Remembering the saddest day at Dhemaji on August 15, 2004, where 14 innocent people lost their lives in a bomb blast triggered by the ULFA, Sok Divas was observed here today under the auspices of the Morigaon district administration.

Thousands of schoolchildren and senior citizens assembled at the Tarun Ram Phookun playground here and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls. Later in a public meeting several speakers appealed to the people to root out terrorism from the society.
