State level school chess begins

GUWAHATI, May 1 � The All Assam School Chess got under way at South Point School, Barsapara here today.

Altogether 108 players including 26 international-rated players from Dibrugarh, Duliajan, Tinsukia, Jorhat and Mangoldoi, Guwahati are participating in the four-day event.

Prize money worth Rs 40,000 is at stake in this 9 round Swiss League tournament played under classical time control. The tournament is being organised by Guwahati Chess Association in association with South Point School, Guwahati.

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Krishnanjan Chanda, principal of South Point School in presence of Mridul Mahanta, president, Guwahati Chess Association and Salina Masum, chief arbiter of the event.
