State leaders condole demise

GUWAHATI, Aug 31 - Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi condoled the death of the former President Pranab Mukherjee who breathed his last today after battling for his life for the last few weeks.

�Saddened to learn the passing away of Pranab Mukherjee, a statesman, a visionary and a versatile politician who worked tirelessly for the welfare of all sections of the society,� he said.

�He had contributed immensely throughout his life with deep commitment and compassion,� the Governor said in a message, adding that he left behind a legacy of his works which will definitely be a source of inspiration for the posterity. His death is an irreparable loss and marks an end to an era.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that Mukherjee was an embodiment of value-based politics. �A towering personality, he contributed immensely to political and other aspects of the country. He worked dedicatedly for projecting India on different national and international forums. A true statesman, a tall and multi-dimensional figure of Indian politics, his death will be great loss to the country,� Sonowal said.

Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said he was deeply shocked at the demise of Mukherjee �a great statesman, social political, economic reformer of India�.

�His departure is irreparable loss for our country, I had long association with him during my political career,� Gogoi said.
