State held responsible for delay in erosion works

DIBRUGARH, May 9 - The Flood Erosion Resistance Struggle Forum of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia district has held the State Government responsible for the delay in the implementation of the estimated Rs 78.48 crore �Integrated Flood and Riverbank Erosion Managements Works at Rohmoria� in Dibrugarh district.

Binod Kedia, the chief advisor to the Flood Erosion Resistance Struggle Forum Dibrugarh and Tinsukia district said that the Water Resource Department, Government of Assam had not submitted certain data as per the guidelines of Central Water Commission (CWC) for the investment clearance of the project.

�We met the Chief Engineer, Central Water Commission and Commissioner, Flood Managament Project at New Delhi on March 3, 2016, requesting for clearance of the project, but both the officers had said that the proposal was not completed by the concerned department of the Government of Assam. They have not received the datas of as per column IV of the guidelines. This has caused inordinate delay in the implementation of the approved project,� he said.

The Forum�s Chief Advisor further said that he had personally requested the Secretary, Water Resources Department, Government of Assam over telephone from Delhi to complete the project immediately.

He said that a formal letter from CWC was also sent to the State Government, in which certain documents have been sought by the Centre but till date the Assam�s Water Resource Department has failed to submit those documents. �Since March, we have been requesting the concerned department to complete the recommended and approved project but the position is still the same,� Kedia said.
