State has potential for Green Revolution

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 19 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that Assam, which has rich natural resources and fertile land in abundance, has the potential to lead the second Green Revolution in India.

He said that for the country to achieve a balanced growth, holistic development of the eastern region, particularly Assam, too is equally important.

At a youth rally organised at the Veterinary College playground here, the Prime Minister said, My dream is to see Indian farmers income getting doubled by 2022, when the country will celebrate its 75th year of Independence and the North East, particularly Assam, could lead the way.

It is no doubt a challenging task, but Assam has the potential to do it, Modi said, addressing the massive gathering.

Assam has everything, from natural resources to water and fertile land. It is an awakening time for the youths who can take the State to newer heights of development, he said

He, however, vouched for the use of modern scientific interventions in the agriculture sector across the country to reap the desired outcome.

The Prime Minister also praised the initiatives taken in Sikkim in the field of organic farming and expressed hope that the North East as a whole should emerge as the capital of organic farming.

Organic products have great market across the globe for everyone want to eat healthy. It can raise the income of the region by several notches, Modi pointed out.

He assured that the Centre will do whatever is needed to take Assam and other States of the region forward.

Lashing out at the Congress party, Modi said that the Congress is solely responsible for the poor state-of-affairs in Assam as it has been in the power on most occasions and even had a Prime Minister elected twice from the State.

Before I came here (rally), I could not find any political link to it, but seeing the ripples in the Congress camp along with a sense of worry at my arrival, I was forced to think otherwise, Modi said.

The rally was attended by senior State BJP leaders, Member of Parliaments, and Union Ministers like Jitendra Singh and Sarbananda Sonowal.
