GUWAHATI, March 26 - The 21-day lockdown entered the second day today, with the State government announcing fresh measures to further streamline the supply of essential commodities and ensuring social distancing at the same time.
District administrations limited the time during which groceries and wholesale units can operate, while in the city the malls were also allowed to operate to sell groceries but with crowd restrictions.
Reports of people crowding at market areas also poured in from places, prompting Dispur to issue fresh instructions to the district authorities to regulate them.
Meanwhile, there was a flutter in Golaghat after it emerged that two youths of the town were in the same flight in which the COVID-19 positive person from Mizoram had travelled to NorthEast.
�They have no symptoms as yet, but we have sent the blood samples for tests. Also all the 24 families in the Amalapatty building in which they live will be kept in home isolation for fourteen days. Structures in and around the building were also sanitized today,� a district administration official said.
In Guwahati, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited the Sarusajai Sports Complex where a large quarantine centre will be established with capacity for about 700 people. The Health Minister said the facility will be ready in a week�s time.
During the day, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited Tezpur Medical College and Hospital and reviewed the preparedness of Sonitpur district administration to prevent the outbreak of novel coronavirus.
For awareness generation in the tea garden areas, the Chief Minister asked the Health Department officials to carry out regular announcements in the tea gardens. He stressed on the need to monitor the youths coming home from outside the State and making them aware about self-quarantine protocols.
During the day, Assam Police fanned out its men to distribute food among the underprivileged at various places.
In Guwahati, a �quarantine stamped� Russian lady was found roaming around in the city roads after she was compelled to move out of a hotel due to shortage of money. Later, police took her to the hotel where she will be kept in quarantine.
Till the filing of the report, no covid-19 positive case has been detected in the State.
