GUWAHATI, July 4 - A mission mode campaign to combat the spread of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and prevention of deaths caused by the epidemic is presently under way along with awareness generation measures among the public by the State�s Department of Health & Family Welfare.
Taking this initiative ahead, the District Health Society of Baksa has launched a special 100-day campaign through different mass media activity to create awareness among the people.
Elaborating on the initiative, District Programme Manager (DPM, NHM) Karuna Brahma said, �Field-level workers are conducting awareness meetings at the school level and distributing leaflets among the students, teachers and parents. We are also utilising platforms such as Village Health and Nutrition Day held at the villages for informing the community about the symptoms of Japanese Encephalitis and the facilities provided by the Government for fighting this disease.
Mobile medical units are also organising camps at various areas of the State and informing the community about the do�s and don�ts for protection against Japanese Encephalitis. Public address system like fixed loud speakers and announcement through moving vehicles are also being done in various areas of the State.�
Japanese Encephalitis is a disease spread by mosquito and its symptoms include acute fever, headache, mental irritability, vomiting tendency, convulsion and loss of consciousness.
It needs to be mentioned that all the district hospitals and medical colleges provide free diagnostic facilities for Japanese Encephalitis. ICU facility is also available at every medical college of the State for treating patients suffering from Japanese Encephalitis, said the District Media Expert Prashanta Kumar Dutta.
He further added that under Baksa district, six blocks namely Mushalpur, Jalah, Golagaon, Nizkarubaha, Barama and Tamulpur have been included under this special drive.
