State Govt hikes medical allowance

GUWAHATI, Dec 14 � The State government has raised the medical allowance of its employees to Rs 600 per month. The State government employees have so far been receiving an amount of Rs 350 as monthly medical allowance.

The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) has hailed this hike in the monthly medical allowance of the State government employees.

The Parishad said in a press release that it has been pressurizing the State Government to raise the monthly medical allowance to Rs 1,500. The Sixth Assam Pay Commission of the State government meant for its employees did not recommend any hike in the medical allowance of the State government employees.

The Fifth Assam Pay Commission recommended a hike of Rs 50 in the monthly medical allowance of the State government employees with effect from August 1998. This raised the total monthly medical allowance amount of each of the State government employees to Rs 250.

This amount was raised to Rs 350 per month by the State government with effect from January 2004 following a discussion with the SAKP.
