State Govt has failed to handle flood: AJYCP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 27 - Rapping the State government for not providing adequate relief to the flood-affected people of Assam, the AJYCP today alleged that the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government has failed to handle the flood situation.

Seeking a more dedicated approach to deal with the flood situation, the AJYCP said the COVID-19 situation cannot be an excuse for a sluggish response to the devastation caused by the floods.

Floods have claimed more lives than the COVID-19 pandemic. The plight of people in areas reeling under the floods cannot be overlooked on the pretext of the pandemic. Its the States responsibility to provide quick response, adequate relief and other necessary support to the flood-hit. In view of the pandemic, its all the more necessary to address their health needs, Parishad general secretary Palash Changmai stated.

Flaying the State government for its misplaced priorities in so far as spending public money is concerned, the youth body said while crores of rupees were spent on organising various festivals and events like Filmfare Awards in Assam, the biggest concern of recurring flood and erosion still remains unaddressed.

Earlier also, the AJYCP had criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Sonowal for giving press statements regarding their telephonic conversation over the flood situation in Assam. Adequate fund and not mere telephonic talk is the need of the hour. At least Rs 1,000 crore must be released immediately by the Centre for flood relief in Assam, it added.
