State Govt flayed for delaying tactics

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, May 31 The Assam State Universities Teachers Co-ordination Committee (ASUTCC) has expressed deep concern over the alleged delaying tactics played by the State Government in implementing the total pay-package of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) guidelines.

The Co-ordination Committee has stated in a statement here today that the Central Government has been insisting on the State Government right from 2008, to implement the revised pay package to the university teachers as a composite scheme by combining the other amenities like pension as well as enhanced age of superannuation up to 65 years.

However, the State Government has very tactfully ignored the recommendation of the Central Government and implemented only a part of the total package, that too, by excluding the arrear of pay with effect from January 1, 2006 as envisaged in the package and as declared by the Chief Minister on the floor of the State Assembly.

Further, the State Government is yet to implement the release of even this part of the package to the teachers of Assam Agricultural University.

Further, the Central Government through another letter dated May 11, 2010, has reaffirmed its stand on implementation of the pay package as a composite scheme and not on a piecemeal basis as per the will of the State Government, said the Co-ordination Committee. It has also added that it has submitted reminders to the State Government and the Governor of the State as well, on the issue.
