State govt favours night curfew

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 29 - The State government is in favour of continuation of night curfew even after the end of the fourth phase of the lockdown on May 31, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an event here, Sarma said barring the night curfew, the State government is OK with everything else. We should come back to normal life (from June 1). But we want night curfew to continue, even if it is enforced from 9 pm. It is helping us, he said.

Sarma, however, added that barring the night curfew part, the State government will go by the Central governments decision regarding other guidelines if the lockdown is extended further.

The social distance message has gone down well among the people. Masks are being used and people are slowly fitting into the new way of life. We want to return to normal life in a phased manner.

We might open half of the shops in a mall and resume the classes of X and XII initially etc. Once people are completely comfortable with the new way of life, we can return back to normalcy, he added.

RELAXATION: Meanwhile, in an order, the State government has exempted asymptomatic woman who travel to Assam by train or air alone from institutional quarantine. However, she will have to be in home quarantine for fourteen days after collection of swab samples and hand stamping. Also, asymptomatic senior citizens who return by air also need not undergo institutional quarantine. However, both the exemptions will not be applicable if the train or flight in which they travelled is found to have high incidence of infection.
