State Govt diverting Central funds: BJP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 22 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh today accused the State Government of diverting Central funds for gaining political mileage.

Addressing mediapersons here, MP and national secretary of the party Ramen Deka alleged that huge amount of funds of several Central schemes like NLCPR, AIBP, NRHM etc are being diverted by the State Finance Department.

About 30% of the Central funds are being distributed and the balance 70% is getting utilised for the State schemes like distribution of yarn and blankets for the benefit of the Congress party, Deka alleged.

Deka also alleged that top Government officials were guilty of fund diversion and pointed out that Government officials should not be politically inclined and be biased in performing their duties.

On the other hand, interacting with mediapersons, BJP Assam Pradesh Minority Morcha president Muminul Aowal accused the Congress and AIUDF of working hand in hand. Aowal alleged that AIUDF voted in favour of Congress candidates in the recently-concluded Rajya Sabha polls and that both are working with a common intent of safeguarding the interest of the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

Aowal also stated that the condition of the minorities is still the same after 15 years of Congress rule and the Congress and AIUDF have used the sentiments of the minority people as political raw material. The leader also mentioned that the State Wakf Board established for the benefit of the minority people has not been able to meet the needs of the minority.

He also stated that had there been even 4% utilisation of the assets of the Board, revenue worth Rs 2000 crore annually would have been generated instead of the current revenue generation of Rs 1-1.5 lakh annually.
