GUWAHATI, Sept 4 - The Assam government will reward Rs 1.60 crore to sprint sensation Hima Das for her outstanding performances in the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships at Tampere, Finland in July and the recently-concluded 18th Asian Games in Indonesia.
Hima won 400m gold in the Finland junior Worlds creating history as India�s first athletics gold medallist in a global event, while she bagged three medals on the Asian Games athletic tracks of Jakarta � a gold in 4x400m relay and two silver medals in 400m and 4x400m mixed relay.
Hima, who landed in New Delhi today from Jakarta, will arrive here on September 7. A felicitation function will be organised at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here on the same day at 5 pm. The function has been organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam which will be attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal as the chief guest.
Hima will be rewarded Rs 50 lakh for each of her gold medals and Rs 30 lakh each for the silver medals.
