State Games at Silchar from today

SILCHAR, Jan 6 - The stage is set for the start of the 3rd State Games, popularly known as the Assam Olympics, which will get underway at the SM Dev Stadium in DSA Silchar on Thursday at 3pm.

Meanwhile, the organisers were seen busy giving final touches to the preparations on Wednesday evening.

Babul Hore, secretary, DSA said �We are leaving no stone unturned for the Games to begin. We are being immensely helped by the officials of the Assam Olympic Association and other agencies including the district administration and the police.

Most of the players and teams have reached and some others will arrive on Thursday morning. The Games will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in presence of other dignitaries amidst glittering events.�

As many as 87 players will represent Cachar district in 11 disciplines under the physical branch category. �We are hopeful of winning a good number of medals in the fencing, judo, karate archery, wrestling and karate disciplines,� said Nanda Dulal Roy, the branch secretary.
