State flood situation improving

GUWAHATI, June 3 - The death toll in the first wave of flood has gone up to ten on Wednesday with one new casualty reported from Goalpara district. The daily flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that the victim died in the Lakhipur area of the district.

According to the report, altogether four districts � Goalpara, Nagaon, Hojai and Cachar � were reeling under floods affecting 1,44,322 people in 212 villages. But no river was flowing above the danger level.

In past 24 hours, 86 villages in Goalpara district were reeling under flood followed by Nagaon (85), Hojai (31) and Cachar (10). Floodwaters submerged a total of 22,717.50 hectares crop land, affecting 13,195 big animals, 4,721 small animals and 11,816 poultry.

At present, 2,193 people are taking shelter in 21 relief camps in the affected districts.
