State flood situation grim

GUWAHATI, June 26 - The flood situation in the State worsened further today affecting over 2.52 lakh persons in 16 districts. The Brahmaputra was flowing above danger level at Jorhat, Dhubri and Tezpur while Burhiding, Dhansiri, Jia Bharali, Puthimari, Pagladiya, Manas, Beki and Sankosh were also flowing above danger level.

Several areas of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Kokrajhar, Nagaon, Barpeta, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia were reeling under flood waters on Friday, according to a bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority. Around 11,765 hectares of crop area have been inundated.

Around 18,234 persons are taking shelter in 82 relief camps as on Friday.

One person died in Dibrugarh, while the overall fatality due to floods this year went up to 16.

Reports of infrastructure damage and embankment breaches was pouring in from various places.
