State Fishery Dept to assure quality fish seeds

MANGALDAI, June 17 - A high-level team of the officials of State Fisheries Department accompanied by a world fish experts Dr Trong and Dr Suresh on Monday visited the sites of different schemes of the department, being implemented in Darrang and made a field-level review of the proper utilisation of funds, so that the successful implementation of the schemes could benefit the marginal fish growers of the district. The team took stock of different ongoing schemes sponsored through various government programmes including RIDF, RKVY, APART and SOPD among others.

Later, talking to the media, at the Government fish farm, Upahupara, Mangaldai, the Director of Fisheries, Padma Nath Das said that the department has already taken several major schemes through APART to develop and produce fish seed in several fish farms owned by the Department itself, including the Upahupara farm in the State so that quality fish seeds can be made commercially available whole round the year. He also assured to take up some new schemes to encourage the educated youths of the State towards a �blue revolution�. District Fishery Development Officer, Tapan Kumar Das and Nodal Officer of APART, Dr Sanjay Sarma also accompanied the team during their day-long visit.
