State Film Fest on March 10-18

GUWAHATI, March 8 � The Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Assam and Assam State Film Finance and Development Corporation are jointly organising the State Film Festival, 2010 from March 10 to 18, which will also mark the celebrations of 75 years of Assamese cinema. While the State film awards would be presented on March 10 evening at Rabindra Bhawan, the celebration of Assamese cinema completing its 75 years would begin with a colourful cultural function at the same venue. As a part of the festival, some selected Assamese films including Ganga Chilonir Pakhi, Ranga Police, Puberun, Opaja Sonar Mati, Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala aru Joymoti, Aparupa, Haladhar, Alayron, Aranya, Kadam Tole Krishna Nache will be screened at the Anuradha cinema hall from March 11 to 18. Addressing a press meet today, Secretary, Department of Cultural Affairs, Santanu Thakur said that the awards would be presented in 29 categories. �The award money has been increased this time and a new award for best film critic has also been introduced in the name of noted film critic of the State the late Pabitra Kr Deka,� he added. Noted film actress Jnanada Kakati and actor and film director Abdul Mazid would jointly receive the Pramathesh Baruah Lifetime Award.

�Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi would attend the function as the chief guest, while renowned film artistes Parikshit Sahani, Seema Biswas and noted filmmaker Jahnu Barua would also be present on the occasion,� said Bobbeeta Sharma, chairperson, Assam Film Finance and Development Corporation. � Staff Reporter
