State doctor scripts success in US

GUWAHATI, Aug 4 - Dr Mustafa Ahmed Barbhuiya, originally from Hailakandi, has become the first individual from North East India to be selected as one of the 40 honorees by the prestigious American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). He was honoured on July 29, according to a delayed press statement issued here.

ASCP recognises scientists for their contributions and achievements in the scientific field and empowers them to become leaders who make an impact on pathology and laboratory medicine.

According to the statement, ASCP is the world�s largest body on pathology and it selects 40 honorees annually under the age of 40, through a highly competitive application or nomination process.

Dr Barbhuiya is at present a clinical chemistry fellow in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Penn State University College of Medicine, Hershey, PA.

He did his Masters and Ph D in Biochemistry from Jiwaji University, Gwalior in 2005 and 2013 respectively. Later on, he joined the School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA for his post-doctoral studies and focused on identifying cancer biomarkers using high throughput mass spectrometry analysis. He did another post-doctoral fellowship in molecular oncology and therapeutics from the School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University (2015-2018).

Dr Barbhuiya is also an associate fellow of the Association of Clinical Scientist, Texas, USA, the statement added.
