GUWAHATI, June 27 The Assam State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has expressed deep concern over the anti-constitutional activities of the Governor of the State, PB Acharya. In a press release, the party said that the NDA Government at the Centre has shown the same political narrow-mindedness, as the previous Congress ones, by misusing the position of the Governor and with this purpose, the party has nominated a senior BJP leader and a RSS organiser as the Governor of Assam. Within days of taking charge, the Governor started propagating the Hindutva agenda and working to strengthen the Sangh Parivars base, the press release alleged.
The party has also charged the Governor of crossing the limits of his constitutional position by bypassing the democratically-elected State Government. Even though, the people of the State are fed up of the Tarun Gogoi-led State Government due to it being mired in corruption and its inefficiency, still no conscious citizen can tolerate a Governor trying to play petty politics with a democratically-elected State Government, it said adding that the Governor has no right to flout all norms of the Constitution, while holding such an important post and such a Governor has no right to continue in his post.
