NEW DELHI, Aug 31 � The ruling Assam Congress is likely to submit two sets of nomination papers on behalf of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, nominating her for the top post. The nomination is likely to be filed tomorrow.
The prominent signatories from Assam included Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, Dr Bhumidhar Barman, Union Minister for DoNER, Bijoy Krishna Handique, former Union Minister, Santosh Mohan Deb, MPs, ex-MPs, Dwijendranath Sarma, Syeda Anowara Taimur among others. Kalita had flown down to Mumbai to get the Chief
Minister�s signature on the nomination paper.
PCC president, Bhubaneswar Kalita said two sets of nominations were readied for submission on Wednesday in support of Gandhi�s candidature. One set of nomination expected to be signed by at least 20 members would be submitted on behalf of the Congress party. The other set would be signed by the elected members including MLAs, MPs and ex-MPs.
Meanwhile, re-election of Bhubaneswar Kalita for the third consecutive term is almost certain, with no serious contender from the State Congress emerging.
