State Cong to finalise poll ally: Ripun

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Sept 22 - A final decision on selecting the alliance partner for the Assembly polls will be finalised by the State Congress leadership, APCC president Ripun Bora said after meeting Jitendra Singh, the newly appointed general secretary in-charge of Assam.

Bora said he briefed Singh about the partys position on forging alliances with like-minded parties. The entire issue will depend on the State Congress, he added.

The general secretary who hails from Rajasthan separately met Congress MPs from Assam on Monday, besides other leaders including State Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of reports of the Congress planning to revamp the State party unit ahead of the Assembly polls next years.

Talking to newsmen, Bora asked what was the State government doing with the report on the Clause 6 Committee for 6-7 months. He was referring to Sundays decision to refer the high-level committees report to Constitutional experts for legal opinion.

Alleging that the move to implement the Bodo Accord in toto was a lollipop offered to lure the people ahead of the BTC polls, he said that if the government had the intention to implement the Accord, it could have done it long time ago.

Stating that the Congress partys door will remain open till the last moment for the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), he said, We invite them to join us for the larger purpose of defeating the BJP.

Replying to a question, the State Congress president demanded a high-level inquiry into the fiasco on the Assam Police sub-inspector selection examination. When the government cant even keep the question papers safe, how can it safeguard jati, mati and bheti, he asked.
