NEW DELHI, July 12 - Ahead of the Assembly session, a 16-member delegation of Congress MLAs on Tuesday called on Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh to demand declaration of the flood and erosion as the national problem.

The delegation, which is also slated to call on several BJP Central ministers was led by Opposition Leader, Debabrata Saikia. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who is also in the capital, was not part of the delegation.

A member of the delegation told newsmen that they have raised several issues concerning the State including the recent bid by the government to auction oil fields in Assam to private companies. They also demand that the Ministry DoNER should set up a secretariat in Guwahati.

The delegation highlighted shortage of funds for developmental activities because of suspension of several schemes by the Centre. The Congress delegation also called for according ST status to the six communities.
