MANGALDAI, Dec 26 - The 41st Inter District Chess Championship got underway here today.
The championship, organised by the Darrang District Chess Association is divided into three different age categories for both boys and girls � U-9, U-13 and U-17 where a total of 189 young participants across the State will be seen in action.
In the opening first round matches, Mayank Chakraborty and Afsheena Afsha Zaman (U-9); Monthon Kashyap Dutta and Taneesha Som (U-13); Arunav Gohain and Cherusmita Saharia (U-17) defeated their respective opponents. Besides these matches all the first round matches were going on at the time of filing this report.
Earlier, the championship was formally inaugurated by Gurujyoti Das, MLA Mangaldai in the opening ceremony where international level chess master Sahil Dey and World Rubik Cube champion Kabyanil Talukdar were felicitated by the organisers.
