Guwahati, June 11 - A total of 145 fresh COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Assam today, taking the States tally to 3,430. During the day, 183 cured patients were discharged.

Meanwhile, the Kamrup Metro district administration has ordered closure of all shops and business establishments at Panbazars Colonel J Ali Road for seven days. The order will be enforced from the City Pharmacy point to Rail Gate No. 2 at Lakhtokia.

The Arihant Apartment in the area was earlier declared as containment zone after detection of a positive case there on June 6. Subsequently, at least two more cases were detected in a radius of 100 metres.

As on date, there are 26 containment zones in the city of Guwahati.

Visiting the area yesterday, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had expressed concern over the detection of at least 13 positive cases persons without travel history from the community in the city and had hinted at strict containment measures.

The Fatasil area is also being closely monitored by the government.

Citing the cases without travel history, Sarma reiterated that people in Guwahati need to stay cautious and alert.

The minister today visited the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at Borjhar here which is receiving around 2,000 passengers daily.

The number of people returning by train has gone down. Only around 25,000 remain to come from Kerala. But at Borjhar, we are getting 2,000-2,200 passengers daily and many of them have tested positive, he said.

Today, we reviewed the screening arrangements at the airport and at Kiranshree Hotel where the swabs of the passengers are being collected, the minister added.
