GUWAHATI, Feb 19 - The State Cancer Institute (SCI), Gauhati Medical College, celebrated its third anniversary with a two-day programme on February 16 and 17.
A CME was held on February 16 on the topics of �Recent trends in management of Genito Urinary Malignancy and Upper GI Oncology�. Five national and 30 State faculties participated in the programme, which was attended by 124 delegates. A poster presentation competition was also held among postgraduate students as well as residents on the occasion.
Top three scientific poster presentations were awarded with Ashalata Devi Memorial Award consisting of certificates and cash awards. The first prize went to Purabi Das, the second to Dr Revanth Kumar, while the third prize was shared by Dr Luri Borah and Dr Niharika Kutum. The award was instituted by Dr BC Goswami, Director, SCI.
A cycle rally on cancer awareness was organised on February 17 in association with �Tilinga� to highlight the importance of prevention and early detection of cancer.
The anniversary meeting was addressed by Minister of State for Health Pijush Hazarika and Principal Secretary (Health) Samir Kumar Sinha.
SCI Director Dr Goswami presented the annual report and highlighted various activities of the year and spoke briefly on the new expansion project aimed at making it a 345-bed State Cancer Institute with state of the art treatment facilities. He presented the statistics of last one year�s clinical service during which over 34,000 patients received medical treatment. Dr Ramesh S Bilimagga, a renowned Radiation Oncologist and Executive Director, HCG Group of Hospitals from Bengaluru, delivered the 3rd anniversary speech on the topic �Can We Achieve it�Together We Can.�
The vote of thanks was offered by Superintendent Dr Kanakeswar Bhuyan. The anniversary programme concluded in the evening with a cultural programme presented by SCI and GMC staff.
