State Cabinet nod for free electricity up to 30 units

GUWAHATI, Feb 10: The BJP-led State government today decided to provide 30 unit of free power to all households for the period from January to March this year.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal here late this evening.

The Cabinet also approved service benefits for employees of municipal boards. Among the benefits, the 1600-odd employees will be able to avail transfer between municipal boards. They will get additional service benefits till 60 years of age. A Bill, in this regard, will be tabled in the Assembly.

The Cabinet also approved allotment of land to different organisations. The Guwahati Press Club got 3 kathas in Guwahati, Karunadhara received 2 bighas in Guwahati, Jatiya Swahid Parial Samannaya Rakhi Parishad got 1 bigha in Guwahati while Assam Anusuchit Jati Safai Karmachari Parishad got 5 bighas at Rangia.

The Cabinet also decided to adopt Energy Conservation Building Code for energy conservation in commercial buildings. The Cyber Security Policy for the State was also approved.

Furthermore, an amendment to Integrated Sports Policy of Assam was approved, providing for appointment as Class I officer (for medal winners in Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games) and Class II Officer (for medal winners in world championships) under different departments.

Accordingly, athlete Hima Das will be appointed as DSP in Assam Police.

The mini secretariat at Silchar will be made functional shortly with six administrative departments – Personnel, Revenue and Disaster Management, GAD, Agriculture, Fishery and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary.

The Hills Areas Department will be renamed as the Sixth Schedule Council Department while the PWD has been renamed as Lok Nirman Bibhag.

An administrative staff college will also be set up for Sixth Schedule areas of the State while a campus of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra will be set up in Dibrugarh.
