State BJP executive meet at Majuli on Oct 10-11

JORHAT, Oct 7 - Hectic preparations are on to organise the State BJP executive meet which will be held for the first time in Majuli � the constituency represented by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on October 10-11.

It may be mentioned here that the Sonowal-led government for first time, after 1976, held a Cabinet meeting of the State Government outside Dispur � in Majuli island on September 8, 2016. It was on that same day the Government officially upgraded Majuli to a new district from an erstwhile civil subdivision of Jorhat district.

Biren Saikia, BJP spokesperson of Majuli district unit, told The Assam Tribune that preparations are in full swing to organise the two-day party State executive meet on Wednesday and Thursday next. The venue of the meet will be Majuli College Field at Doriapar in the island where a huge pandal is being set up.

Saikia said that party leaders led by State unit BJP president Ranjeet Dass, Chief Minister Sonowal, his Cabinet colleagues from the BJP, North-East Prabhari (In- charge) of the party Ajay Jamwal and BJP national general secretary Ram Lal will attend the executive meet.

He said about 400 delegates from across the State are scheduled to attend the meet. Saikia said that shaping of strategy for the polls, which was a very crucial subject, strengthening of the party base, discussion on the State Government�s performance, along with current important issues of Assam will be on the agenda.

On choosing Majuli as the venue for the State executive of the party, which will be first time in the Brahmaputra island, the BJP leader said the party like the Government wanted to convey the message that remote places were being given priority by the BJP. He said that last State executive of the party was held in Nalbari in 2017.

It may be mentioned here that Sonowal while speaking at a function organised in Majuli yesterday for laying the foundation stone of 28 roads, had said his Government was giving much importance to Majuli for its all-round development and in the past over two years over Rs 1000 crore had been sanctioned for a series of developmental projects and schemes to be executed in the island.

Senior district administration and police officials of Jorhat and Majuli including the Deputy Commissioners and the Superintendents of Police, visited Neematighat (Jorhat) today to review preparations at the ghat in view of large number of VVIPs scheduled to travel to Majuli via Jorhat to attend the State BJP executive meet.
