MANGALDAI, Sept 25 - President of the State BJP unit, Ranjit Kumar Dass has ruled out the possibility of abrogation of Article 371 of the Constitution. Dass was addressing a meeting of the party workers called Jan Jagaran Sabha as a part of its national unity mission at the district library auditorium here on Wednesday.
Claiming that the governments decision to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35 (a) of the Constitution as a correction of a historical fault, Dass tried to justify his claim by explaining about the response shown by different communities residing in Jammu and Kashmir including the Buddhists and Muslims over the decision. Referring to the claims of a section of intellectuals of the State regarding the next hidden agenda of the saffron party to abrogate Article 371 which allows the provision of the prevailing inner line permit in some of the other states of the North East like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland etc., the State BJP chief ruled out any such hidden agenda of the party in power as clarified by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a meeting with the Chief Ministers of all the North Eastern states during his recent visit.
He also appealed to the party workers to leave behind the thoughts of regionalism and wholeheartedly accept the ideology of nationalism. The meeting in which party leaders and workers from across the Mangaldai Lok Sabha territory participated, was also attended by several senior party leaders including the State Revenue and Irrigation Minister Bhabesh Kalita, MP of Mangaldai LS seat Dilip Saikia, MLAs of Mangaldai and Nalbari LACs, Gurujyoti Das and Ashok Sarma respectively, Congress-turned BJP leaders and former MPs of Rajya Sabha Bhubaneswar Kalita and S Kujur, veteran academician and scholar Dr Nagendra Nath Sarma and district BJP chief Nilima Debi among others.
The function was organised in synchronisation with the birth anniversary of party ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay.
