State BJP against any plan to hand over land to Nagaland

By ANN Service

SIVASAGAR, March 26 - State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, while addressing a public meeting at the Sivasagar Yuva Dal auditorium today, said that the State BJP is against any plan to hand over land to Nagaland . T Muivahs statement is politically motivated, he stated, adding that it is part of a ploy to emotionally blackmail the Assamese people.

Dass stressed that the public representatives collectively take a decision on behalf of the people and it should be allowed to get implemented. We must listen to the experts, he said. Dass was referring to the Lower Subansiri dam on which a sum of around Rs 1,900 crore has already been spent by the Government. But there are a few people in Assam who are against the project for reasons of their own. How can the State develop industrially? the State BJP chief asked.

He added that citizens cannot blame the State Government for the poor condition of the roads in Sivasagar as an amount of Rs 9 crore was released under the head to each MLA. If the public representatives sit idle, it is unfortunate, Dass added.

Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Jorhat MP, in his speech, expressed concern over the lack of development in the Sivasagar LAC as an annual grant of Rs 5.5 crore has been sanctioned for every constituency. The MP said that for over two-and-a-half years under the earlier Congress regime, seven MPs from the State did not maintain any cooperation.

Referring to the financial deadlock in the municipal boards, Tasa said that the previous Congress Government made no grants, and that the BJP Government is trying to change the scenario.

The meeting was attended by Phoni Sarmah, organising secretary of State BJP, Kushal Duwori, Thowra MLA, and Bhaben Mohan, district president of BJP.
