By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 28 The National Commission for Minorities on Wednesday asked the State Government to take necessary action for effective and speedy implementation of the Prime Ministers new 15-point programme for welfare of the minorities.

The Commission vice-chairman, HT Sangliana, while addressing media persons here, said that minority status certificates and minority certificates were yet to be issued to educational institutions and minorities in the State, and requested the Government to do the needful in this regard at the earliest.

Sangliana who has met the Governor, the Chief Minister, Ministers and leaders of different communities to discuss the status and problems of the minority communities in the State, said that the State Government has given full assurance to implement the welfare schemes meant for the development of the minorities in the true spirit.

The State Government has promised to implement all the schemes for minorities and we urge the Government to ensure that there is no deprivation of the minorities, said Sangliana stressing the need for taking the welfare schemes for minorities to the grassroots.

It needs to be mentioned here that sub-divisional minorities development boards have been constituted in the State to ensure that there is no deprivation at the grassroot level. Already 40 such boards have been constituted and officials present at the media conference informed that all the sub-divisions would have such a board.

Sangliana said that the Government has furnished an action-taken report on the 15-point programme and as per the report the Government has notified 1,521 Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) centres in the State as LP schools so that the provision of improving access to school education in the 15-point programme is met. Another 3,533 EGS centres would be notified as LP schools in a phased manner and an amount of Rs 7 lakh would be provided for infrastructure development of these schools.

On the other hand, Sangliana said that the Commission was always careful that the majority communities were not put at disadvantage in the process of promoting the minorities.

The Commission has put up a toll free no 1800110088 to entertain complaints of the citizens.
