State agri officers urge Govt to fulfil demands

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - The Assam Agricultural Service Officers� Association (AASOA) has called upon the State government to undertake a series of steps, including amendment to the Assam Agricultural Service Rule 1980 and promotion of officers against vacancies in the Agriculture Department on a regular basis.

Besides amendment to the 1980 Rule and promotion of officers, the association has demanded filling up of both the posts of Director of Agriculture and Director of Horticulture by recruitment from among member-officers of the Assam Agriculture Service. It has demanded deployment of manpower and creation of new infrastructure at district and subdivision levels.

The AASOA has called for implementation of the 6th Assam Pay Commission recommendations, execution of a bottom-up approach in the planning process of agriculture schemes, timely supply of quality inputs under departmental schemes and revival of departmental farms and mass production of quality seeds and planting materials for supplying to the farmers in time.

It has also demanded strengthening of the quality control system through making the quality control fertilizer and pesticides laboratories well equipped to deal with quality analysis in conformity with the Fertilizer & Pesticides Act.

The association further called for setting up of Agriculture Department complexes-cum-offices in all agriculture circles.
