AGARTALA, Oct 2 - Tripura Transport Minister Manik Dey has urged Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to flag off direct train services between Agartala and Kolkata before Durga Puja.

Once again I have requested the Railways Minister to flag off direct train services between Agartala and Kolkata before the festival to meet peoples demand, he told reporters.

While speaking to the media in Civil Secretariat here on Friday, Dey said he reminded Prabhu about his promise to start the direct train service by September which is yet to materialise. We want Railways Minister to keep his words by introducing a direct railway link between Agartala and Kolkata, he said.

NF Railway has already taken up the issue with Railway Ministry, mentioning its preparedness for introducing the much-needed train service between Agartala and Kolkata. The proposal is under the Railways Ministers active consideration, sources said.

NFR authorities said the Silchar-Dharmanagar line can be extended up to Udaipur in Gomati district. As per schedule, Sabroom, States southern border subdivision, is expected to get included in the countrys railway map by 2020.

Meanwhile, Centre has already released Rs 100 crore to undertake land acquisition process for the Indo-Bangla railway link project. IRCON, which was given the task to lay the BG rail track between Agartala and Gangagasagar (Bangladesh), will have to complete the project in two and half years.
