Stanford univ study names Assam�s top scientists

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - Fourteen Assam scientists have found a place in the top �2 per cent scientists of India�, according to a worldwide study carried out by Stanford University, US.

Top scientists belonging to different fields of science and technology have been identified and recognized based on their contribution to knowledge in their respective fields through publications in reputed journals.

Among the top 2 percent scientists of India, Professor Krishna G Bhattacharyya of Gauhati University has secured a ranking of 3 in Environmental Science in India and a ranking of 235 in the world. Professor Pradip Phukan of GU secured a ranking of 48 among the top 2 percent Indian scientists in Organic Chemistry and a ranking of 2089 in the world.

Among others who have been able to get a place in these top scientists of India from Assam are Suvendu Bhattacharyya (Food Science; India rank 8, World rank 552), N Karak (Polymers; 11/738), Ashok Kumar (Applied Physics; 14/1234), Rajpal S Sirohi (Optoelectronics and Photonics; 8/1295), PP Sahu (Optoelectronics and Photonics; 11/1888), BM Choudary (Organic Chemistry; 36/1786) from Tezpur University and VS Moholkar (Chemical Engineering; 17/353), Gautam Biswas (Mechanical Engineering; 38/1125), SC Mishra (Mechanical Engineering; 67/1764), Somnath Majhi (Industrial Engineering; 10/1333), T Punniyamurthy (Organic Chemistry; 53/2444), PK Giri (Applied Physics; 48/3294) from IIT Guwahati.
