Stage set for sub-jr taekwondo

GUWAHATI, Aug 26 � Over 1,000 participants will gather for the 28th Sub Junior (boys and girls) National Taekwondo Championship which gets under way at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here on Saturday.

The All Assam Taekwondo Association (AATA) has completed all the arrangements to hold the meet successfully.

Addressing a press conference, the organising chairman and State Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain said altogether 32 State teams have confirmed their participation out of which eight teams have already arrived here. Hussain revealed they are trying to hold the meet with a low budget and will mostly depend on kinds from various organisations.

AATA secretary Raj Kakoti said they will accommodate all the participants at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium so that they cut down on expenditure.

He said competition will be conducted in 12 different weight categories ranging from 30 kg onwards.

On the host team, he expressed satisfaction over the preparation and hoped good results. He also announced the State team. AATA officials Hiranya Saikia, Diganta Bora along with other officials were also present in the press meet.

The Assam players are: (Boys) Mayukh Mitra, Nirmal Sharma, Bitupan Das, Sasanka Bordoloi, Nirman Rupam Kashyap, Binod Konwar, Raghu Boro, Mithun Phukan, Mohan Saikia, Kamal Mushahary, Mwnshar Basumatary. (Girls). Tonoya Konwar, Sumita Chakraborty, Priyanka Das, Rina Rai, Huwala Pegu, Erin Nobis, Dane Boro, Alari Gayari, Sabita Ramchiary, Rifkabeni Choudhury, Banti Basumatary. Coaches � Abhay Kumar, Dwipen Barman.
