GUWAHATI, Dec 21 � The 9th Youth, 50th Men and 26th Women Junior National Weightlifting Championship will kick start at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in the RG Baruah Sports Complex here tomorrow.

The Assam Weightlifting Association has completed all arrangements for successful conduction of the championship which will be inaugurated by MP Birendra Prasad Baishya, who is also the president of the Indian Weightlifting Federation, at 10 am.

The Youth competition (U-17 years) will start tomorrow while the competitions for the junior section will be held from December 26 to 29.

Around 700 weightlifters from States like � Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Chattishgarh, J&K, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Pudduchery, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi and host Assam will vie in different categories for titles.

Groups: (Youth) Girls-44kg, 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, above 69kg. Boys-50kg, 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, above 94kg. Junior (below 20 years) Women-48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 62kg, 69kg, 75kg, above 75kg. Boys-50kg, 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, above 94kg. Men-56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, 105kg, above 105kg.

Birendra Prasad Baishya retained as president: Rajya Sabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya has been retained as the president of the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) unanimously.

The election of the IWF was held here today where Chandrahas Rai of Karnatak was elected as secretary. Rai (27) beat Sunil Elangbam of Manipur (20) by 7 votes in straight contest.
