SS Netcom to set up global call centre in NE

By The Assam Tribune

Shillong, July 13 (IANS): SS Netcom, the first IT solution company in India's North Eastern region, is setting up an international call centre in Meghalaya.

"The client (an international IT company) is ready and we are in the process of streamlining the system," SS Netcom Founder Conrad Sangma told IANS. Sangma, a Wharton alumni, is also the youngest leader of Opposition in the Meghalaya Assembly.

"The (international) call centre will help our State to contain the brain drain. The centre can employ more than 4,000 people," Sangma said.

Set up in 1999, SS Netcom is the first private Internet Service Provider in Meghalaya and within a year extended its service to Nagaland and Manipur.

In 2005, it launched the first 24-hour call centre in the region. Its clients include Airtel, Aircel, IDEA Cellular and Tata Indicom. "It is a big hurdle to set up an international call centre in Meghalaya due to its poor air connectivity, but we always hope for the best," said Sangma.
