Sriram, Atanu, Muralikrishnan lead after round 6

GUWAHATI, April 5 � GM Sriram Jha of LICI, IM Atanau Lahiri and Muralikrishnan of Railway are leading the field in the 4th Jugal Kishore Newatia International Rating Chess Championship with 5.5 points after completion of round 6.

Twelve other players including overnight joint leader GM RR Laxman of ICF and WGM Marry Ann Gomes of West Bengal along with Madhab Sarma of Assam, Arjun Tiwari of Maharastra, IM Suvrajit Saha of Railway, IM Akshayraj Kore of Maharastra, Biswa Bijay Ghimire of Nepal, Himal Gusain of Chandigarh, Naveen Hegde of Karnataka, Rajkumar Apollosana of Manipur, Shankar Mazumdar of West Bengal, Nassir Wajih of Delhi are breathing down their necks with 5 points each from the same number of rounds.

In top board, Arjun Tiwari of Maharashtra held GM RR Laxman to a draw but in the second board, GM Sriram Jha did not give any chance to IM GB Prakash and beat him to remain in joint lead. IM BT Murali Krishnan accounted for young FM Diptayan Ghosh from West Bengal while IM Atanu Lahiri beat IM Himanshu Sharma.

Former Assam champion Madhab Sarma beat Niraj Narula of Nepal.

Subrat Baishnab, Nandan Buragohain, Santanu Barpatra Gohain and Rajib Dhar of Assam scored 4 points each.
