Spring session of Baligaon Milan Chora held

GUWAHATI, April 24 � The spring session of Baligaon Milan Chora was held at Shantigram Complex, Khanapara today with senior journalist DN Chakravartty in the chair.

The secretary of Milan Chora, Biman Chandra Sarma, in his report, spoke about the activities of the Chora during the last three months during which several programmes concerning education and welfare were implemented. Major General (retd) Jiten Phukan narrated his thrilling experience while serving in the Army in the Tawang region, braving inclement weather and tremendous obstacles caused by the difficult terrains.

Anil Baruah stressed the need for greater social cohesion and spiritual attachment to free society from the scourge of corruption, violence and selfishness. Pratul Sarma, Satish Sarma and Abani Sarma narrated their experiences during their early career while Sailen Acharya regaled the audience cracking jokes. Indira Sarma sang modern songs while Purnima Dutta, Luku Devi Barkataki and Biman Sarma presented Bihu songs.

Chakravartty, in his speech, said that the present-day violence and corruption owed their origin to social isolation of individuals who become totally detached and unconcerned about their neighbourhoods.

The meeting decided to felicitate octogenarians of Baligaon every three years.
