SPOs� stir hits train services

GUWAHATI, Sept 20 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that all the genuine issues and grievances of Special Police Officers (SPOs) would be addressed by the government.

Hundreds of SPOs have started a protest march from various parts of the State to Guwahati, disrupting rail services.

Meanwhile, passengers had a harrowing time with many long-distance and local trains controlled, cancelled or short-terminated due to the agitation at Maibong station under Lumding Division and subsequent agitation at Lumding railway station.

Till the time of filing of this report, among the down trains, the 15604 Intercity, the 15902 Dibrugarh-Yaswantpur, the 12435 Rajdhani Express (via Lucknow), the 15960 Kamrup Express, the 12423 Rajdhani Express (via Kanpur), the 14055 Brahmaputra Mail and the 15909 Avadh Assam Express were controlled or regulated at various places like Lumding, Diphu, Dimapur, Bokajan and New Tinsukia, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said.

Besides, the 15910 Up Avadh Assam Express was also controlled at Hojai.

Among the trains cancelled were the 12067/12068 Jansatabdi Express, the 55601/55602 Kamakhya-Lumding Passenger, the 15717 Guwahati-Mariani Intercity, the 15670 Nagaland Express and the 15665 BG Express.

In addition, the 15718 Mariani-Kamakhya Intercity, the 15928 Dibrugarh-Rangiya Express, the 05967 Rangiya-Dibrugarh Special and the 15469 Alipurduar Junction-Lumding Intercity were short-terminated in Guwahati.

The 55901 Lumding-Tinsukia Passenger was rescheduled. NFR authorities said arrangements were made for catering of passengers stranded during the period on account of disruption of services.
