Sportsperson passes away

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, March 22 � Veteran sportsperson, sports organizer and media entrepreneur from North Lakhimpur, Safiqul Latif Baruah, died in a private nursing home in Guwahati today following a brief illness. He was 73. Baruah was an outstanding football player since his school days from 1956 to 1964, represented undivided Lakhimpur district in major tournaments like ATPA Shield, Dugar Shield, Independence Day Cup etc. Baruah was also a fine cricket and volleyball player who represented the district at various championships. Safiqul Latif Baruah was also an accomplished sports organizer who served as the secretary and president of Lakhimpur District Sports Association for a long period since 1976.
